“I started working for PDSE five years ago as a Dental Nurse, supporting both student and qualified clinicians. No two days are the same — I help prepare clinical areas, assist during treatments, and ensure everything is safe, organised, and patient-focused.
In this role, I was also the Infection Control Lead, where I supported the team at Devonport DEF in maintaining high cross-infection standards within the clinical environment. This included ensuring that staff and students were up to date with the latest infection control policies and providing daily guidance to students.
I have also completed a qualification in sedation (both inhalation and intravenous), which I achieved with support from PDSE’s commitment to staff development. I support the sedation clinic alongside a team of oral surgeons and dental nurses.
Four years ago, I took on an additional role as a Research Dental Nurse. In this position, I recruit patients, deliver treatment as part of research studies, and collect the necessary samples and data. More recently, as Lead Research Dental Nurse, I support the setup and organisation of new studies and provide ongoing support to the research team. This role has also given me the opportunity to attend conferences and collaborate with teams across the country, sharing experiences in what is a very specialised area of research.
I am very passionate about research, as it plays a key role in the future of healthcare. The work we do contributes to improvements not only within dentistry but across the wider healthcare system. These studies help shape policies, care pathways, and patient information, benefiting patients in the United Kingdom and internationally, particularly in countries where resources for conducting research may be limited.”
