Following graduation, Aengus worked for more than twenty years in community, private, and NHS/HSE primary dental care clinics across the UK and Ireland. He was awarded his PhD in 2015 (TCD, Dublin) following research on clinical communication in primary dental care. This research focused on how dental and inter-professional teams can enhance the public understanding of healthcare communication. He was part of the Education Faculty for Dental Protection from 2015-2020, leading workshops for dentists and dental care professionals on how to enhance their clinical communication. He was a Senior Clinical Lecturer in UCLan Dental School in Preston from 2016 before joining Peninsula Dental School as Clinical Lecturer in 2020, where he was co-Lead for Professionalism, Lead for Inter-Professionalism Learning, and Programme Lead for BDS3. He has been an external examiner at King’s College London Dental School, and co-Chair of the UK Council of Dental Teachers of Professionalism. At the PDSE Devonport facility he oversees the training clinics for dental students and dental therapy students.
