Zoe Brookes

Zoe graduated from Peninsula Dental School in 2014, and joined the team as a PDSE Dentist in 2024, after spending 10 years working as a Dentist in busy NHS practices in Plymouth. In PDSE she now works in the community clinics (Health Inclusion Pathway Patients; HIPP) for people who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse or substance misuse. She is a Director of PDSE, being a board member since 2026. On other days of the week, she is a Professor of Integrated Dental Healthcare at Peninsula Dental School, leading the BDS and DTH award-winning curriculum since 2023 as the Associate Head of Teaching and Learning.

Zoe also has a track record of conducting clinical trials in primary care, working with industrial partners to put direct patient benefit at the centre of this research. Her main interests are how the oral bacteria (microbiome) affects general health, and using products such as and mouthwashes and toothpastes to help improve gum disease. She has also set up health screening clinics, including for blood pressure and women’s health, all contributing towards over 70 international publications in dental and medical research.

Outside of Plymouth Zoe is a member of the British Dental Association, Royal College of Surgeons England and British Association for Oral and Dental Research (Treasurer), and is on the editorial board for Int Dent J. She is Chair of Dental Schools Admissions Council that supports dental workforce initiatives for the South-West, and complements the PDSE mission to increase access to dental care for local communities.
